Enrolment

Enrolment involves:

  • Completion of an 'Application for Enrolment' form
  • Commitment to attend classes regularly in appropriate attire

Prior to enrolment, a student may have a try-out period of three lessons. Once your trial period has expired, you must enrol to continue class participation.

Following confirmation of enrolment, students are enrolled for the remainder of the calendar year unless the Studio Director agrees otherwise. Prior to the end of the calendar year, all students must provide confirmation of their class schedule for the following year.

To withdraw enrolment, the Studio Director must be informed. Simply failing to attend classes is not regarded as cancellation of enrolment and doing so will result in being invoiced for the remainder of the year's classes.  If you withdraw an enrolment before the end of a full term, you are still responsible for those terms fees.

Behaviour

We reserve the right to remove any student from class for failure to observe the 'School Rules' without recourse.  Any student or member of a student's family who behaves in a disorderly fashion at any of our classes, rehearsals, performances, or functions will be asked to leave and may be refused further service, also without recourse. We are pleased to say this rule has never been invoked. We would be happy for it to remain that way.

Attendance

Regular attendance is required. Each student's attendance and progress is important to the progress of the whole class. Interest is kept when there is progress and development. Irregular attendance slows both. Missed lessons may result in lower performance standards and may require restructuring of lesson time.

Students must arrive a few minutes prior to class time. It is important that classes commence on time. Late comers may miss important information and valuable warm-up time. Please pick up students promptly. We cannot be responsible for any child outside his/her class time. It is not desirable for them to wait out on the street.

A student's class level will be determined at the teacher's discretion. If necessary, the teacher may move a student to a different class that better suits the student's ability.

Any scheduled class having less than six enrolled students may, at the Studio Directors discretion, be cancelled or combined.

What to Wear to Class

An important part of any dancers training is to encourage good grooming and presentation.  Appropriate attire allows teachers to see bodyline and movement and be able to give necessary instruction to promote the students progress.  Listed below are uniform requirements for Encore dance classes. While these items are not compulsory for class attendance - they are preferred and are required for students participating in dance exams or assessments.

Items are available from Dance Junction (81 Bathurst Street, Hobart, 62 345 070).  The Parent Support Group has made a second hand shoes service available at the school.

Hair is pulled back neatly into a bun or ponytail for all classes.  In dance, it is vital that students remain focused on the class work and not become distracted by hair falling over the face.  It is also important for teachers to see all facial expressions to be able to give necessary instruction to promote progress.  If students have short hair, a headband will keep hair from their face.  Classical Ballet classes require a bun.  No jewellery is permitted will the exception of watches and medic alert bracelets. All other jewellery can prove dangerous to others in class as well as be distracting.
